Manage your pain with Acupuncture
The most popular reason people seek acupuncture treatment is for pain. There are hundreds of studies backing up its effectiveness. Acupuncture activates your body’s own natural abilities to reduce pain through activation of the nervous system. In simpler terms, it turns off the pain signaling in your brain and decreases muscle tension. It activates your body’s ability to create natural pain relief.

Our lifestyles are getting busier leaving less time to de-stress. Acupuncture activates the “rest and digest” part of our nervous system, also known as the parasympathetic system. Acupuncture turns off the stress response. This is a great adjunct to therapy or medications. Get lasting calmness that stays with you throughout the week.

For many years I suffered mild chronic stomach pain. When I began using acupuncture and herbal medicine I was so excited to finally have lasting relief. Even my GI doctor said she recommends her patients to acupuncture for their digestive issues. It decreases stomach pain and heartburn. Regulates loose stools or constipation. Try it today!
Hello! I’m Kara Velez.
My mission is to bring you the most effective solutions for natural healing. Acupuncture is just one of my tools. Pain can be caused by muscles, bones, injury, diet, lifestyle, and stress. When you come into my office I will not only assess your muscles and bones, but I will also dig deeper into what else in your life might be contributing to your pain. I will not only use acupuncture but also massage, cupping, gua sha, herbal medicine, stretching, diet, and lifestyle recommendations.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
This is by far the most common question I get asked. Most people associate acupuncture needles with their experiences getting shots or having blood drawn. An acupuncture needle is significantly smaller than a hypodermic needle used in a doctor’s office.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
The mechanism of acupuncture has been studied for the past 60 years. There is still much to understand about how it works, but here is what is understood so far. Acupuncture activates your nervous system and through this connection lessens pain signals and relaxes muscles. The neural pathways from acupuncture point to deactivation of the pain centers in the brain have been mapped. 1, 2 Acupuncture stimulates the body to make its own natural pain killers which are chemically similar to opioids. 3 Other biochemicals involved in pain reduction are also released such as ATP, GABA, and substance P. Because acupuncture works with the body’s natural ability to stop the pain it is safer than pharmaceuticals. 4
Do You Take My Insurance?
If you would like to use insurance for your acupuncture visit you must know that insurance will only pay for musculoskeletal pain. This means they only pay for back pain, neck pain, knee pain, etc. In some cases they will also pay for nausea. While acupuncture treats so much more than this, unfortunately, you must pay cash for all other conditions.
